रिपोर्ट के मुताबिक, ब्लास्ट स्टेडियम के पास खड़े गैस टैंकर में हुआ। धमाका इतना जोरदार था कि आसपास के घरों की खिड़कियां और दरवाजे हिलने लगे। साथ ही घटनास्थल के पास पार्क हुए कई वाहन भी क्षतिग्रस्त हो गए। इराक के राष्ट्रपति अब्दुल लतीफ राशिद ने घटना की जांच के आदेश दिए हैं। उन्होंने घटना के जिम्मेदार लोगों को सजा दिलाने की बात भी कही है।
